Northern Highbush, Late Season

Liberty Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum `Liberty’) has taken the market by storm! The 2004 introduction created by the Blueberry hybridizer Dr James F Hancock of Michigan State University has become known for high quality in both commercial and home garden settings.

Liberty is an abundantly productive variety. It’s also a very late ripening Blueberry, which gives it a special place in your collection.

Liberty starts to set fruit very young. Don’t be surprised to see fruit set on your Liberty blueberry the first season you plant it!

The delicious berries are moderately large with exceptional flavor with a snappy, firm texture. The fruit is set to the outside and covers the plant.

Liberty is a vigorous upright growing plant with numerous canes that are moderately branched, and the fruit are well exposed and easy to harvest. The upright growing plant features darkly colored foliage, which contrasts nicely against the powder blue fruit.

Although Blueberries are for the most part self-fruitful, the planting of an additional variety brings a bigger crop. The late season Liberty would be complimented by an Early and a Mid-season selection planted close by. Plant them so you can enjoy the wonderful fall colors in multiple shades of red.

Finally, if you are short on space, the Liberty makes a fine patio container plant.

With very good keeping quality, these Blueberries are packed with vitamin C, high in dietary fiber, and are an excellent source of vital antioxidants. Liberty makes delicious jams, jellies and desserts with robust, balanced flavor and excellent firmness.
