Perfect Native Substitute For Boxwood!

Boxwood has been part of the American garden scene for centuries, and for good reason. It makes a great hedge, is easy to prune into shape and doesn’t require a lot of upkeep. But, it does have its downsides – lots of insects like to do Boxwood harm, it can get out of bounds if it isn’t pruned well and it’s so ubiquitous that it has a reputation of being a bit boring.

It’s time for something different for American gardens.

That is why we are very happy to introduce Strongbox Inkberry Holly (Ilex glabra \’Ilexfarrowtracey’). This hardy plant is native to North America, so it has all of the attributes that natives bring:

1. It is very disease resistant and not susceptible to the same troubles that Boxwood are.

2. It is very adaptable, able to adjust to many different garden sites, soils and conditions.

3. It is just about maintenance free, not needing any coddling and still able to look great.

On top of that add that it is a hardy evergreen, withstanding -20 degrees in zone 5, and that it grows into a naturally globular shape so that no pruning in necessary to keep Strongbox looking it’s best.

Try it as a hedge to replace that ageing Boxwood one you have now. Try it in a large container by the front door. Try it planted en masse under the big tree in the front yard.

Wherever you try it, we know that you be so happy with it that You’ll probably never go back to Boxwood again!
