Jonagold was bred in the 1940\’s as a cross between Golden Delicious and Jonathan. It can not pollinate other varieties. It is a large golden Apple with large splashes of red.
The fruit has a thin skin with a sweet and slightly tart flavor. Jonagold Apple has a superb flavor – a connoisseurs’ choice because it has excellent cooking properties. It is a cross of Jonathan and Golden Delicious. It does not store well, but is excellent for eating fresh, pies, sauces, and salads.
The tree is handsome, sturdy, vigorous and spreading. It is reliably productive each year. The Apples ripen from mid-September to late October, depending on the location.
It can be pollinated by Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith or Red Delicious, but not Golden Delicious.
