Wine In The Snow

Helene Hibiscus, Hibiscus syriacus \’Helene’, is an upright shrub with large saucer shaped flowers that bloom from July until frost. Its flowers are single, pure white, with a red center.

\’Helene’ is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade, but its best flowering occurs in full sun. \’Helene’ may be massed, planted in groups, used as a specimen, a foundation plant, or shrub borders. It can also be used as a hedge or screen.

This waxy dark-green, foliage plant is valuable as a specimen plant. It tolerates poor soils and some drought, is very tolerant of summer heat and humidity, and generally tolerant of urban conditions. It has no serious insect or disease problems.

If you prune in the spring it will keep its shape. This Xeriscape plant is a vigorous, upright, vase-shaped, deciduous shrub.

Hardy Hibiscus are slower to emerge in the spring but quickly grow to an impressive full height once they do.

Don’t hesitate to pick up one for your butterfly garden or perennial bed today and plant it someplace where you can enjoy the butterflies being drawn in!
