Garden Plant: Fraser Fir
Product Description: Fraser Fir
Easy To Grow and Great Shape!
The Fraser Fir, Abies fraseri, is a tall Fir tree that has short dark-green needles with silver undersides. With its compact, pyramidal shape, and long lasting aroma, it has become one of the classier conifers!
Because of this density and compactness, Fraser Fir is a great ornamental and Christmas tree. It will grow in most locations but must have good drainage. Fraser Fir is a medium-sized, dense evergreen tree has wood that is light, soft; not strong and coarse-grained. It has continued to edge out all other species by major retailers because of its endurance, marketability, and functionality. It is grown extensively for Christmas trees in North Carolina, where it is ranked as the number one Christmas tree by the Christmas tree industry!
This tree is relatively low maintenance, and usually looks its best without pruning, although it can take some pruning. It does best in full sun to partial shade, prefers moist to wet soil, and has a strong preference for sandy, acidic soils. It thrives better when planted in a relatively sheltered location.
The Fraser Fir has soft needles, incomparable needle retention, a long lasting aroma, and strong branches for even the heaviest ornaments!
