This variety has great reviews from the field, especially in areas where low winter chill is a concern. Flavor Gold Nectarine is tested to set well in as low as 400 hours chill.
This is a great selection for an edible landscape. Why not make your land work for you, family and friends? While it is self-pollinating, we recommend planting more than one for the heaviest fruit set.
And You’ll want more than one of these pretty trees to enjoy more of the showy, pink clouds of blooms in the springtime. This edible plant is very ornamental, and the red-skinned fruit is really beautiful.

How to Use Flavor Gold Nectarines in the Landscape
Nectarines are primarily a fresh eating fruit, but can be used as a substitute in many Peach recipes. Peaches and Nectarines have similar characteristics. Adding in Flavor Gold’s rich, sweet flavor will boost the appeal of your favorite dishes.
Try them as a fresh eating fruit warm from the tree. There is nothing better than sweet, juicy homegrown fruit. Flavor Gold can be sliced and dehydrated for a healthy snack on the go anytime. Or, try freezing slices to use in baked goods. Don’t forget to infuse a pitcher of purified water with a few slices!
How nice to grow your own fruit. You’ll know exactly how your food was grown and prepared.
Flavor Gold’s upright growth habit is another great quality. It will grow with very narrow growth habit. Keep the height in check with a summertime pruning if you want an easy harvest.
Use them as a very useful privacy screen in a sunny side yard. Or, run them along the length of your existing fence to add welcome height and soften the look. You’ll solve landscape challenges, and grow an amazing orchard at the same time!
We have a collection of these columnar fruit trees. Why not plant a mixed hedgerow and get the best of the best? Space trees 5 feet apart on center. You’ll measure from the center of one to the center of the next.
Try them with other columnar Peach varieties, like the white fleshed Blushing Pearl Peach and yellow Sweet Sensation Peach. You’ll create a wonderful focal point, and seriously love the springtime flowers!
Add one on either side of your front door for a very noteworthy welcome. Can you say curb appeal? Greet guests in style, and let them pick their own fruit to take home with them.
Pro Plant Tips for Care
Flavor Gold Nectarine requires full sun and well-drained soil to thrive. Always plant where it can get plenty of the drying power of the morning sun. It will happily live in direct sunlight all day, but should definitely get at least 6 hours to perform well.
Protect your tree with a sheltered spot. Ensure it receives plenty of good air circulation, but keep it out of the worst of the wind. Giving your trees proper planting care at the start makes a world of difference.
If your soil has a drainage problem, simply bring in additional soil and mound up to 18 inches high. Or, create a raised planting bed 3 feet wide. Planting in a raised mound will improve drainage, as a portion of the root system will become established above the soil line.
Give a thick layer of mulch 3 to 4 inches deep, spread to 3 feet outside of the canopy of the tree. You’ll cut down on moisture evaporation and help keep the root system cool in the summer heat.
In areas with peach leaf curl, include an application of Bonide Copper Fungicide as directed. Be sure to look at our organic solutions for Fruit and Nut trees.
Prune in summer to keep the height where you want it. Remove crossing branches and open the tree to air circulation and sunlight with late winter pruning to shape.
Flavor Gold is a self-fruitful selection that produces beautifully where nectarines are known to produce well in Hardiness Zones 6 – 9. Enjoy the opportunity to grow these amazing, tasty fruits. Order today!
