Beautiful Native Wildflower Works Hard in Your Garden

Purple Prairie Clover (Dalea purpurea) is an absolutely charming, deep-rooted, beautiful native legume with sweet, stubby purple blooms. Each bloom looks like it’s wearing a frilly light purple tutu, dotted here and there with brilliant contrasting orange spangles.

This eye-catching selection brings butterflies to your yard in droves as it blooms through June and July. Growing naturally into an upright vase shape, with finely textured leaves, use this in a rock garden, in front of a sunny perennial border, or as a “Filler” in container gardens.

It is a good partner plant for other Prairie natives and other neighboring plants. Like all legumes, it works to fix nitrogen and enrich the surrounding soil.

Have a steep slope? Purple Prairie Clover also prevents soil erosion with its long tap roots that reach far down below the plant. It stands up to hot, dry conditions and is long-lived. For slopes, give us a call for high quantity pricing over 500 plants.

Because this is a native wildflower, in some areas it may perform a little “too well”. You are protected with our subscription to Plant Sentry, which helps us comply with all local and state regulations for regionally invasive plants.
