Garden Plant: Mauna Loa Daylily
Product Description: Mauna Loa Daylily
You’ll Need Your Sunglasses!
Mauna Loa Daylilies can best be described as “hot lava” orange. This description isn’t just about their color, either. They are so hot that you can spot them all the way across the garden. (One display garden we know has them planted on the slope of a high hill and despite the literally hundreds of dazzling multi-hued daylilies surrounding them, visitors to the garden most often ask, “What is that orange one up there on that hill?”)
As striking as they are from a distance, they are even more beautiful close up! The color is difficult to put into words. Here are a few descriptions from people who’ve tried:
“Deep orange with undertones of crimson-red that shines through. “
“Neon orange with a hint of coral. “
“All of the colors of a marigold blended together. “
“Knock-your-socks-off tropical!”
“Pictures don’t do it justice. “
No matter how you describe it, you and your neighbors are bound to love it!
Coloring-up in early to mid-season, this has been a super-reliable bloomer in gardens since 1976, so you know that it has stood the test of time and should also thrive in your garden. Mauna Loa clocks in at almost two feet tall with flowers that are 5″ or bigger. Even without the stunning coloration, these are statement daylilies in the landscape.
Though one is more than enough to brighten up a dull garden, trust us when we say that you will wish you had ordered a lot more when you see them blooming. We get that a lot.
