Garden Plant: Lanceleaf Coreopsis
Product Description: Lanceleaf Coreopsis
Bright Prairie Native Brings Butterflies
This short, easy-care native wildflower brightens up your yard and your mood. Lanceleaf Coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolate) grows naturally in dry, rocky soils throughout North America.
Bold, upright leaves support the sunny faces of the flowers, which feature deeply textured yellow petals. The blooms are held on long, skinny stems which dip and sway in the breeze, adding a very welcome, airy feel against boldly textured companions like Penstemon or Sedum.
This plant, like many other Prairie natives, is a great wind dancer and will bring a unique kinetic energy to your garden border. They’ll add motion with their early summer blooms and encourage your local butterfly and moth populations. Coreopsis makes a fabulous nectar resource for these “flying flowers”.
Planted in the right conditions, this cute plant will act as a groundcover to outgrow weeds and hold the soil. The distinctive foliage remains tidy and chipper well after bloom.
For an ultra-modern look, consider planting a monoculture of this native in a rectangular garden bed, or along your front walkway. Let it go to town and do its thing. Once the blooms are done, it just takes a simple pass through to remove the spent blossoms.
Because this is a native wildflower, in some areas it may perform a little “too well”. You are protected with our subscription to Plant Sentry, which helps us comply with all local and state regulations for regionally invasive plants.
