Do you collect plants that nobody else has, flowers that everybody asks you about, or blooms that make you hear music when you see them? Then why haven’t you added the Concertina Tall Bearded Iris (Iris germanica \’Concertina’) to you cart yet? This unique and rare iris features colors that manage to be both stunning and subtle.  This flower has striking pictures, but its pictures don’t do it justice.

The Concertina Tall Bearded Iris erupts with huge 5-inch blooms that deserve to be on a red carpet best dressed list. The Concertina Iris unfurls in late spring and reblooms as summer turns into fall. These amazing blossoms are adorned with pale rose falls and tannish-violet to pink standards with sophisticated ruffles. But it’s the Concertina Iris’s beards that will capture your imagination. They are bright sunshine orange at the center and purple on their ends.

With beards this bright, it’s no wonder butterflies and hummingbirds make this plant a necessary pitstop.

Plant your Concertina Tall Bearded Iris in late summer into fall for best results. All you have to do is prepare a small hill of soil and plant it in the center with its rhizome poking out. It likes lots of water when it begins to root, but you will want to pare back as it becomes established.

Concertina Tall Bearded Irises like to show off their beautiful heads in full sun or partial shade. For best performance, provide yours with well-drained soil. The Concertina Iris will be ready to thin after about two to three years. And you don’t have to worry about rabbits or deer munching on them, they tend to leave them alone.

Show off your Concertina Tall Bearded Irises by planting a row along the walkway to your front door. While in bloom, your guests will feel like they’re in a fairytale, and while not in bloom, this iris still looks attractive with green sword-shaped foliage that can appear violet at the base.

Impress your neighbors with a mass planting around your birdbath or a circle of them around your mailbox. The Concertina Iris also looks amazing as a garden border where it’s head-and-shoulders taller than any other bloom.

While the Concertina Iris will fill your garden with a concert of pastel colors, it will also fill your day with free-time. This low-maintenance beauty queen won the Award of Merit in 2006, and it’s easy to see why. Treat yourself and your neighborhood to this unique and enchanting flower. Order yours from us today!

Information About Bare Root Iris

Bare root Iris are shipped as nice fresh cut divisions with two to three fans of green tops. Keep in mind each Iris variety can have slightly different sized roots.

When planting, make sure 1/3rd of the rhizome is exposed to sunlight with the roots buried underneath. Note, it’s best to cover the rhizome with a thin layer of mulch or leaves to protect it during the coldest months but make sure to uncover in the spring.
