The blue-green foliage adds texture year round and even fall color to any of your perennial beds. The mix of colors and shortness make this Columbine stand out from the rest.
\’Biedermeier’ should be planted in full sun to partial shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Columbines are a profuse self-seeder, so it should be planted 12-18″ apart. The planting area could double in a few years because of the reseeding characteristics of the plant. Quickly naturalizing and filling sweeping areas with their unique leaves and flowers, \’Biedermeier’ can be contained by deadheading right after they finish blooming.
It is best used in rock gardens or in containers, beds and borders, in cottage gardens and butterfly gardens. It attracts butterflies and hummingbirds and other pollinators, but deer tend to leave it alone.
