Garden Plant: Amethyst Falls Wisteria
Product Description: Amethyst Falls Wisteria
Fragrantly Blue All Summer
The Amethyst Falls Wisteria, Wisteria frutescens \’Amethyst Falls’, is a vigorous climbing vine that has fragrant 4-6 inch long clusters of lavender-blue flowers in June through August.
Also known as American Wisteria, this vine will need a supporting trellis to climb. It is much more restrained than the Asian species, so it is easier to manage. It also refrains from choking out trees and other plants.
The Amethyst Falls Wisteria is excellent in containers for porch or patio. This deciduous plant will produce slightly fragrant, purple blooms at an early age. It needs regular weekly watering twice a week and during high heat periods.
Fertilize regularly during the growing season with a general purpose fertilizer. Prune this plant in late winter to promote vigorous new growth.
This vigorous growing American Wisteria is noted for its attractive, fragrant flowers and has a more restrained growth habit than other Wisteria.
Amethyst Falls Wisteria may grow 10 feet or more in one year, and you get the best show by trimming your vine to four buds from last year’s new growth just before this year’s growth begins.
