Garden Plant: Prince Charles Clematis
Product Description: Prince Charles Clematis
Cool Blue All Summer
Clematis Prince Charles has incredible flower power! The compact plants bloom profusely for a long time from July through September. The 4″ mauve-blue semi-nodding flowers are deeply ribbed with a slight twisting habit: contrasting yellow anthers.
Ideal for a container plant, it is called the poor man’s \’Perle d’Azur’ because it is a similar blue, but more compact. It is much more manageable than some of the sprawling varieties.
Clematis Prince Charles needs a supporting structure to grow properly but will also grow over large shrubs, over walls, cover stumps, and make perfect cover ups for unsightly service areas.
Clematis is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine.
Groom this plant after first flowering by cutting back the top one-third to one-half of some stems. Clematis \’Prince Charles’ is a very reliable performer once established: it takes a season or two to get going!
Brilliantly free flowing and compact, Clematis Prince Charles a superb choice for the patio or other well-trafficked nighttime garden spots!
