Garden Plant: Bonanza Clematis
Product Description: Bonanza Clematis
Power Punch in Small Blue Blooms
Clematis Bonanza, Clematis \’Evipo031\’, is a newly developed clematis and part of “The Festoon Collection”. This new Evison/Poulsen clematis is extremely free flowering from late June through September.
The flowers of Clematis Bonanza are mauve-blue with pale yellow anthers and are 3″ in size. Do not underestimate the flower power of this variety because of the smaller flower size!
Bred for excellent disease resistance, this clematis is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread.
Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine.
Bonanza Clematis needs a supporting structure to grow properly but will also grow over large shrubs, over walls, cover stumps, and make perfect cover ups for unsightly service areas. Groom this plant after first flowering by cutting back the top one-third to one-half of some stems.
The Clematis Bonanza is a very reliable performer once established: it takes a season or two for it to get going!
