If color is what you want, color is what You’ll get with our Ixia Mix. This bright and cheerful show will add a flash of joy to your garden and put a spotlight on spring with the perfect mix of lemon-yellow, creamy white, and orchid-violet.
Ixia, also known as “African corn lilies,” shine brighter than most spring bulbs. They first arrive in spring as tall and elegant grass-like foliage then they send up a shoot that becomes flocked in buds and blooms. Each Ixia bloom is darling in its own right, but when taken in as a whole, the clusters of flowers are riveting. Each bloom opens to a friendly star-shape and some varieties have an exciting, high-contrast, blackish-red eye.
Ixia flowers alternating positions as they climb creates an orderly and even appearance. These dazzling and vibrant flowers give off the perfect spring vibe.
These quaint and colorful blooms arrive in early spring and stick around much longer than most blooms. Blooming in ascending order, many fill the garden with flowers for several weeks.
The Ixia, or Wand Flower, makes an excellent option as a cut flower or container flower. They’re great for beneficial pollinators, and they come back year after year. They are annuals in some zones, but you can always establish them in pots and bring them indoors in the winter. In regions where they perennialize, all you have to do is plant them in fall and leave them be–or maybe we should say “leave them bee” since pollinators adore them so much. They do enjoy full sun.
